For post 5, I want to go to Island View Beach. Island View Beach is a location I have wanted to go to for a while but have found it challenging to make the time to do so because I live a farther distance from it.

Curricular Connection
The curricular connection I was thinking of for this post focuses on grade 2 science in the BC Curriculum:
Make and record observations.
Location
Island View Beach is located on the territory of the Tsawout First Nation (SȾÁUTW̱) along the Saanich Peninsula. I have found it to be more of a challenge to find information online about how the Tsawout First Nation may have used Island View Beach, so I have included some geographical history about the area. The topography of the area has been shaped by a massive glacial sheet from approximately 15,000 years ago, depositing rock, gravel, and sand. Drumlins (teardrop-shaped hills) were created as the ice progressed over time.
The Tsawout would use the beach for harvesting foods such as clams, crabs, mussels, and sea urchins, as well as medicinal plants. The SENĆOŦEN name for Island View Beach is XṮEWEȽ. I found a document on the Tsawout website that includes names all over the W̱SÁNEĆ Nation.
Mood Before and After
Something I have noticed around this point is that I am now getting ads on my phone on social media promoting apps to help with “doomscrolling”. I find this really interesting because not once throughout this project, have I typed in the term “doomscrolling” into anywhere on my phone.
I have decided to make a slight change to this project in that I will no longer making paintings for what I have been seeing. I really enjoyed doing this in the beginning, however, I have found that this has shifted from trying to integrate an activity I enjoy into my coursework in order to engage with it more into a task that is no longer enjoyable for me. And that was not the point of this project. The purpose was to help increase my mood–which it has–but now, it is starting to do the opposite. I feel a bit frustrated with this change but I also feel significantly less pressure with these posts by making this decision.

My mood prior to going to Island View was around a 3 and I left at around a 4. I saw a bird I had never seen before, and I later learned what I saw was called a Black Oystercatcher. I was really excited to see a new bird I have never seen until now.
