Today is March 2nd 2026. I’m going to reflect back about our discussions last Friday about the SAMR model, and voice my thoughts about the TPACK model.

To refresh my memory, SAMR signifies: Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition.

In regards to the model’s effectiveness, theses steps make sense when integrating technology to add to lesson plans. We spoke of the example of giving a short lecture or having a short discussion with students, followed by a video to contribute to the lesson (ideally an interactive video). The discussion doesn’t need to end, but this time the lesson is supplemented with a video that is visual, detailed, and in-depth to help the learning process.

From this process all the words from the acronym are integrated into the lesson plan by a video. The same can be applied with many other technological examples, like Kahoot.

In terms of the TPACK model (Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge), I think its an interesting concept because its about accessing learning objectives.

It’s difficult for me to think of a concrete example at the moment, so I looked up another video:

In the video, it explains the overlap and differences of the 3-circle venn diagram. For the example part, the teacher gets the students to research about the great pacific Garbage patch (which is an island of trash in the P.O the size of Texas). She gets the students to see how it affects wild life and how it relates to the new ban of plastic bags in Austin, TX. Afterwards, they have to make a commercial to convince other municipalities to ban plastic bags as well.

So essentially, the overlap of TPACK happens in this example by the use of computers and Movie editor applications, teaching about the subject of the trash island, and sharing this content knowledge in the commercial video format.

I find it interesting to think of these concepts for integrating tech in the classrooms because they have specific steps.
