The purpose of my free my free inquiry project this semester is to focus on more meaningful use of technology and using it to reconnect to activities I enjoy, taking care of my mental wellbeing, and establishing a better connection to the lands I live on.

A goal of mine for this year was to reduce how much of my time I spend on social media and instead use that time for something I enjoy. Technology is not necessarily the issue in my life but how I make use of it is and I want to use it with more careful thought and intention. I want to replace my passive consumption of media with activities that sparks my creativity and rekindles the connection I have with watercolour art. To get some inspiration for what I want to paint, I will also be combining this activity with going nature walks at nearby locations. Further, I think it’s also important for me to get to know the land to establish a deeper relationship with it. I have had the privilege of living where I do my entire life and it is important that I know the area in a way that is more than just surface-level. I will also achieve this by conducting some research about the areas I will be visiting.
Additionally, I want to track my mood prior to and after going on a walk. I want to engage more in slowing down and reflecting on what I’m doing in the moment. I have a bad habit of racing through much of what I do in my life which has an impact on my mental health and well-being.
This project can easily connection to multiple subjects across the BC curriculum and can be adapted for use within a classroom setting. With each post I make, I plan on discussing in further detail the specific connections that can be made to the curriculum.
