For my free inquiry project, I have chosen to focus on the inquiry question of “How might the strategies and technologies used in my personal fitness inquiry inform my future teaching practice?” This means that I plan to integrate fitness into my daily schedule/ life, and to use technology to guide me, I will plan and track my progress throughout my inquiry and relate this topic to education, specifically the BC Curriculum in the areas of ADST and PHE. I will also use this inquiry to compare and contrast the tracking of my own progress and workouts with how they relate to classroom assessment.

Currently, I am in the planning phase of my inquiry. Here, I will develop a schedule based on online research and articles to help me decide how often I should be working out and how to balance different types of fitness to ensure I am well-rounded in my practice.

Using the Physical Activity Tips for Adults (18-64 years) website from the Government of Canada, I researched how much physical activity I should be doing per week and used some of the tips to help me get started. The website states that I should do a minimum of 2.5 hours per week of physical activity, and that these sessions should be moderate to vigorous aerobic activity (see the RPE scale here, as images are not loading). Some of the tips include making a routine, doing a variety of activities, limiting technology use (phone and TV), spreading sessions out and joining a team. I will apply most of these tips throughout my journey with this inquiry, except for joining a team, since my schedule is a little sporadic right now, which might make it challenging. Therefore, I will be doing activities at varying times.

The Plan & Addressing Barriers: Physical activity 3 times a week. I am starting with three times per week and can slowly add more as I have time or capacity, depending on my schedule. My workout days will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Tuesdays, I will go to the gym in between classes and work from 1-2 pm. On Wednesdays, I will go for a walk or hike with my friend Ella somewhere in Victoria from 10-11:30 am. On Fridays, I will go to the gym again around the same time, 1-2 pm, after my morning class. I have the capacity to go to the gym weekly because I work at a recreation centre and get a free gym/swim pass; therefore, it would cost me nothing to go whenever I am available. If my Ella is unable to meet for a walk, I can walk around my neighbourhood instead with my dog in that time block. If, for some reason, I miss a gym session on a Tuesday or a Friday, I will make up the workout on Saturday, when I have nothing scheduled, or on Sunday in the afternoon. The platform I will use to schedule my workouts is Google Calendar, which will help me smoothly integrate my workouts into my daily life while balancing work, school, and personal life.

This plan began on January 21st and will continue throughout the semester. I will report my progress throughout the term and continue to expand on the inquiry, connecting it to other online platforms, how it can be integrated into the educational system, and how media can be used in physical health and wellness.

Finally, I explored using AI (ChatGPT) to create a visually appealing way to share my workout, school, and work schedules. There are definitely flaws in each generated image, so here they are. The common problems I am finding are that there are a lot of spelling mistakes in the bottom 2, and over the few image generations, it has mixed up some of the days of my regular schedule. The first one is the best one, but it is still not completely accurate.

Gemini generated this image from my calendar with the prompt “can you create an image of my weekly schedule as per the picture below. You can animate it and make it fun but keep the same stuff on the same days of the week. Id like the weekdays to be sunday-saturday with no dates involved” but it did not create exactly what I had in mind either:
