What is it?
Pedagogy is how we teach — the approach we take to help engage students with learning materials. There are many approaches to pedagogy (especially recently) that are worth mentioning, but are beyond the scope of this module. Consider a few other types of pedagogy. Pedagogy of Care, Trauma-Informed Pedagogy, Pedagogy of the Oppressed, Pedagogy of Justice, and more.
Within the Open Education community there is a movement and exploration around Open Pedagogies. The reading below will give you a sense of some of the debates and some of the practices of pedagogues in this area. One key feature of all of the pedagogical approaches is that they all consider the learner’s social, historical, political, economic, and personal self — the “situated” self. Examine some of the great examples provided in The Open Pedagogy Notebook.
