It is vital for TTOCs to have their own kit of activities and materials that they can use to support students, buy time for themselves, or form lessons from if the regular teacher wasn’t able to leave a plan!
The Kit
Your TTOC kit should include problem-solving activities for teams of students. These activited should:
- Be fun
- Require little explanation
- Take 20-30 minutes to complete
- Be something that the class can reflect on has a whole when completed
- Challenge students to think and be creative
- Example: Think of all the things that come in pairs
Your TTOC kit should also include discovery activities, such as questions for students for discuss among each other and research online if computers are available.
- Example questions: Are there two kinds of rainbows? Can a fish drown? Can seaweed predict the weather? Why do aging things turn yellow?
Of course, your TTOC kit should include materials that you will need during the day, and extra materials for students who may need them.
- Pens, pencils, Sharpies
- Whiteboard markers + eraser
- Sticky notes
- Clipboard
- Notebook
- Water
- Snack
- Erases
- Blank paper
- Lined paper
- Coloured pencils
- Markers
You may also want to have a few highly adaptable lesson plans for when the main classroom teacher was unable to provide a full lesson plan. Options should be available for a wide range of grades, settings, and students.
