Purpose

  • Learners apply the “Designer” competency to create authentic, learner-driven activities for language revitalization, or other subject areas for non-language revitalization learners, that accommodate learner variability.

Assignment 2A

Task A

  • Select a topic for your lesson plan, as well as an overarching goal for your lesson.
  • Create SMART Learning objectives for your lesson.

Criteria A

  1. Lesson Plan Topic: Ideally your lesson plan topic or skill is something that you are interested in or passionate about.
  2. End Goal: In a sentence or two, create an overarching goal for your lesson. In other words, what should the learner be able to do by the end of the lesson?
  3. Learning Objectives: Create two or more SMART learning objectives for your lesson plan. Learning objectives should be: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-based.

Assignment 2B

Task B

  • Develop a structured lesson plan and corresponding lesson activities/materials.
  • The lesson must incorporate at least one educational technology, but not necessarily a digital technology.

Criteria B

  1. Instruction: Create instructional materials to introduce the lesson topic to your students using at least one educational technology, and explain the “why” of the topic or skill. Why should your learners care or want to learn this skill or information?
  2. Activity: Create or include at least one active learning exercise to use as part of your lesson.
  3. Evaluation: Outline how you will determine if the learning objectives you set out for the lesson have been achieved by your learners.
  4. Length: Your lesson should be no more than 10 minutes long will be delivered in person. Your introduction/instruction should last 5-8 minutes, and then begin on your activity. You will only have time to start on your activity, and will not be able to finish it. Post all your all activity materials to your personal website for those who would like to finish it outside of class time.
  5. Make it Usable by Others: The lesson instruction and activities must have enough detail so that a substitute teacher could be handed the lesson material and successfully lead the lesson with minimal preparation time.

Allowed Uses of Generative AI:
