Generative AI Policy
Generative AI tools and assistants are multiplying rapidly in all media. In this course we will explore different ways Generative AI can assist you in exploring, planning and developing materials for learning purposes. Too much use of Generative AI creates bland, homogenous and sometimes inaccurate results and gets in the way of your learning about what each tool or teaching method can offer. The best way to learn about the most effective and ethical use of Generative AI tools is to do tasks manually first. If you look at the marking rubrics for the assignments in this course you’ll notice that the majority of the grades are assigned for exploration, experimentation and reflection which can sometimes be messy and unpolished – and that’s great. This learning process is much more important than the final product of this course.
In the second half of the course we will be exploring Generative AI, looking at a range of tools that can help you create lesson plans and learning materials efficiently as well as discuss some of the ethical and environmental issues that some Generative AI tools present. You are welcome to Generative AI tools to assist you in completing assignments for the course using the guidance below.
For every assignment, if you choose to use a Generative AI tool to assist you, you need to cite your use of of the tool(s) and reflect on your use of these tools including:
- The GenAI tool you used (E.g. ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Claude, Microsoft CoPilot Pro, etc.)
- The date you used it
- The prompt or prompts you used to generate the content (in an end note)
- The full output from the prompt (in an end note)
- A paragraph describing (in an end note):
- how you used the Generative AI tool(s) (for initial research, preparing outline, editing, image creation, video creation, etc.)
- how effective or helpful you felt the tool was
- Any errors or inaccuracies you found in the GenAI raw outputs
- What did they make possible for you?
- What were the drawbacks of using GenAI in the way you did?
- If you have any questions or need help referencing your work, please contact me for support
Unless assignment specific guidance is given,is the permitted use of Generative AI for each assignment in the course:
