My name is Rich McCue and I am your instructor for IED 336: Technology and Innovation in Indigenous Education. I look forward to meeting you and working with you all throughout the semester.
I acknowledge and respect the Lekwungen-speaking Peoples on whose traditional territories the university stands and the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSANEC peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day.
I am a 4th generation settler originally from Ireland and England. My family mainly settled on the traditional territory of the Cree people (now known as southern Alberta) and my family moved to the traditional territories of the Songhees people just before I was born. Over my life, I have lived on the territories of the Songhees, Cree, and Tupi-Guarani (in southeastern Brazil). I grew up with two sisters and four brothers, and my partner and I raised our two daughters and three sons on the Songhees territory.
I have worked at the University of Victoria for over 20 years, and manage the Digital Scholarship Commons in the University of Victoria Libraries, and am looking forward to working with you this term!
Before our first class together I will email you the course outline, and during our first class, we will briefly go through it, address any questions you have, and get set up for the term ahead. Please review the course outline before our first class and bring any questions you may have to our class.
To help me get to know you a bit better, as well as get to know each other better, I will invite everyone (who is comfortable doing so) to share a bit about themselves in our first class together. Some of the things you might consider sharing are (but feel free to share other things if you’d like of course):
- Where you grew up?
- What interests and/or hobbies you have?
- What grade levels you would like to teach (if you know at this point)?
- What you hope to get out of IED 336?
- Any fears or concerns you have about Educational Technology or IED 336?
- Anything else you’d like me to know about you?
I want you to know that you can always contact me if you have questions or concerns, I will reply as quickly as possible. Mattermost will be the quickest way to get a response. In addition, if needed throughout the term, you can contact me via my cell number (see the course outline). Please text or message me on Mattermost before calling. Sometimes it is helpful to talk through an issue for quicker resolution.
Here is some additional contact information for me:
