Hi all,

I hope you enjoyed our guest this week, Jesse Miller. You certainly did ask some great and thoughtful questions. I will provide Jesse’s contact information on the social spaces page of our website, in case you want to reach out to connect with him.

I am sorry we did not get to all of the questions in the Menti back channel. I have collected some resources below to address some of those questions that were brought up.

  1. Professional Standards for BC Educators (PDF Summary) and Website
  2. Duty to Report: Reporting Concerns About Children and Youth (PDF)
  3. Teacher Regulation Annual Report (PDF) – This report provides a statistical review of disciplinary cases for the years 2022-2023. See the table on page 15-17 for examples of the type of issues experienced in BC during that time. More reports and info can be found on the Commissioner for Teacher Regulation website.
  4. You can find and review specific disciplinary case reports and outcomes here.

As requested last week, I know some of you wanted to add your music class to your WordPress sites or additional sections as needed. Guess what, I created a video to walk you through this process. The video is a screencast and you will have an opportunity to make similar videos next week in class!

To do list for week three:

  • Investigate your own digital footprint by searching your name, social media account usernames, email using Google search. There are strategies you can do to remove unfavourable content, please reach out if you need help.
  • Review the Google in Education article and consider listening to the podcast about the use of Google in Education here in SD61.
  • Post an update for your free inquiry project.
  • Post a reflection from Jesse’s talk today, feel free to use the ‘what’, ‘so what’, and ‘now what’ reflection approach; what did you take away from the session, so what does this mean for your future career as an educator, and now what will you do based on the information provided.
  • Start to think about your topic of interest for the Educational Technology Presentation, we will brainstorm ideas and form groups by next week
  • One-to-one assessment meetings will be available to book by the end of the week.
