Happy to see you all yesterday and thank you for your engagement with the readings, discussion, and activities during the Zoom session.
Make sure to have a peek at the list of learner blogs that have been approved for public listing and the feed of the latest posts from the network. As I said in the session, if something does not look right to you or you want to be added to the list or feed, just reach out to me at any time. You can still make individual posts or pages private by setting their visibility and those will not appear in the feed or be accessible to others unless you give access. So, it is possible to use your portfolio for both public and private reflections based on your privacy preferences.
As a reminder, I would really appreciate if you could login to Zoom each week before we meet. In order to login, open the Zoom software on your computer, log in, then click the link to our course meeting room as you have been doing. This saves me from managing the waiting room and ensures a more blissful experience if people join late. I appreciate it and I believe your other instructors will as well. It is a good practice.
I hope all goes well with the Thursday session of EDCI 515 and you will enjoy getting an opportunity to learn from our librarian about navigating the library databases and conducting search queries as we start to dig into our research interests.
Tasks to complete before we meet next week
- Review What Makes a Good Blog Post to learn about building great reflective posts and pages on your portfolio.
- Review the Finding Open Resources and Content tutorial to understand how to find openly licensed digital media for use on your WordPress blog and future projects.
- You can still access the discussion question document from our session. The link is in Mattermost. Feel free to download a copy, add to your drive, or bookmark for later, should you want to revisit.
- Please complete the Learning Pathways survey, review the Zotero tutorial, and install the Zotero software if you have not done so already.
- If you have any questions or want to share resources or ideas, please post to our private EDCI 570/571 Mattermost Channel.
- Please firm up your initial areas of interest in educational technology for discussion next week. We will form pairs next week for the Team Research Presentation to come later this term (Assignment Two). Remember this does not have to be your MEd project interest but is a chance to dip into the research, create a presentation, and present the findings as a team.
Readings for next week
The following two readings will help you prepare to read research articles
- Jensen, J. (2018, August). Lessons on the Craft of Scholarly Reading. ChronicleVitae for Higher Ed Jobs, Career Tools and Advice.
- Reading: Ecampus Research Unit (2023). Report Reader Checklist. Oregon State University Ecampus. https://ecampus.oregonstate.edu/research/projects/report-reader/
Please also review the Clark versus Kozma readings (in both cases use the download PDF option)
