tl;dr

Thank you for your substantive posts and contributions to the class discussion. As we continue through the rest of Challenge A: Comics, I hope you continue to engage with your classmates.

Readings

This week we have two readings to support the development of your comics. Text and Image: the sum is greater than its parts goes into the detail of two media, words and imagery. The post on Storytelling has a lot of valuable information and links to videos. Do take some time with both readings and take notes with regards to its use in your multimedia project. It is not mandatory, but I encourage you to create another substantive post on the new content.

A reminder, that your comic is predominantly graded upon how you got to your final product, not what it is. In other words, the more you can connect theory to your design decisions the better.

Class Meetings: Thursdays 12 – 1 PM

The poll results are in! For those that are unable to make the time, the mini-lecture will be recorded and shared and you can always book a one-on-one with me.

The goal is so that each week we can meet to discuss theories and tools relevant to our interactive and multimedia projects. (these classes are optional but highly encouraged)

Each session to be as follows:
~25 mins: a quick lesson on theory with discussion
~25 mins: open questions and project updates.

Prototype due Wednesday

Your prototype is the first draft of your final project. You can share it as a web page, a document with clear project documentation, or a blog post.

The prototype can be a rough sketch of your comic—it doesn’t have to be perfect—or a detailed text description of the words and images. The key is to clearly get your point across. Along with your prototype, please include your “Understand” and “Plan” phases. These don’t need to be perfect or complete; you’ll have a chance to refine them later. Please utilize this template.

Once you have everything ready, share your prototype with your peers in our cohort’s Mattermost channel.

Peer Review due Sunday

On Thursday, after everyone has submitted their prototype, I will assign two of your peers’ prototypes to provide feedback to (~200 words each). One of the best ways we can grow individually and as a team is through the process of feedback. Both offering and receiving peer feedback can be hard, scary, and emotional – please consider your words carefully for constructive and actionable comments. Please reach out to your instructor at anytime for any kind of support.

Group Signup

For our next projects, you’ll be working in groups of three.

I recommend connecting with your classmates on the Mattermost chat so you can find people with similar interests and project ideas. Please use the form here to sign up with your group.

The deadline to choose your own group is Sun, Sep 21 at 11:59 PM PST. If you don’t sign up by then, I’ll assign you to a group.

As always, you can reach my by email, Mattermost, or by booking a meeting.
