Hopefully most of you have gotten your blog set up and your first blog post made. Keep on a weekly pace though so this course does not run away from you. Please get started with these tasks:
- Watch talk with Cable Green (see bio) on Open Licensing and Open Educational Resources (and I encourage you to consider watching these videos as a watch party with your pod – and one of you in Zoom choosing Share content/options/with computer sound). You can also watch them with a family member or friend. Or feel free to share the link for others to watch as it is openly accessible. He speaks directly to computer science folk in this talk as well, so watch for that easter egg for those of you in computer science. Also, K12 folks, especially those in leadership, should watch this talk.
- If you have not already, set up a weekly meeting time with your pod. Even if you do not do your assignment 1 together, you should meet to peer-review each other’s blog posts. Give each other input for improving their blog layout or posts. Help to brainstorm ideas for their inquiry if not the same as you. Encourage them if you see their blog slipping into inactivity. Be there for each other and maybe even make a new friend for beyond the class.
- Send your inquiry topic to Valerie to approve via DM on Mattermost or, if you need a boost for brainstorming, send a DM or book a 1-1 meeting to brainstorm. Either way, you will want help with networking or how to make it the most it can be. You can also email Valerie, but know it is a firehose so other avenues may be quicker.
- Share your weekly posts with your pod members for peer review. This can happen when you meet.
- Watch talk with Dr. Inba Kehoe of UVic Libraries (Scholarly Communications Librarian and Communications Officer) on Copyright, Fair Dealing, and Licenses
