Welcome to the website for EDCI 136: Digital Literacy at the University of Victoria! EDCI 136 is an open elective course offered by the Educational Technology faculty in the Faculty of Education. This course is online and entered as “asynchronous” in the registration system with weekly recordings with guests, and then pods of learners (in groups of 4) will be expected to meet synchronously with each other via Zoom according to their own schedules. Learners are also expected to register in a lab section that is synchronous; however, for extenuating circumstances, a learner can contact the instructor to request an alternative plan. Learners will also be asked to meet with their assigned lab instructor 1-1 or in their pods for assessment meetings. Again, this will be arranged at a mutually agreeable time.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your instructor, Dr. Valerie Irvine, at virvine at uvic dot ca – and if you find any dead links or typos, or in general things to update or better resources to link, please do not hesitate to reach out as our domain is always changing.

I want all learner to know that I am an ally to learners with disabilities or chronic health issues, and that very much includes mental health, to learners who are single parents, to learners who are new to Canada (and refugees like my mother), to learners who are members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, to learners who are racialized, and if you are a first-year learner who has hit a wall and you need a mentor, simply reach out. We will create a safe space in this course for everyone.

We look forward to learning with you!
