We are excited to be hosting an edcamp on Wednesday, March 31, from 1-2pm PST that will combine both sections of EDCI 336 this term as well as stakeholders from beyond. We have run edcamps in our classes before as well as hosting large in-person ones here at UVic and they draw wonderful people from the community ranging from teachers, EAs, principals, professors, scientists, parents, and more! We will invite learners from our 3 sections of EDCI 336 last term as well as preservice teachers from other universities. Feel free to send the link to the edcamp website out to educational stakeholders you know, so that they may register (it’s free!); however, please do not send the Zoom link out yourself as they will not be admitted to our Zoom room if they are not formally registered.

To prepare for EdcampUVic next week:

  • Review our blog post on Running an Edcamp
  • Review the website we built for EdcampUVic that we will be running next week (and feel free to share the URL with others so they can register)
  • There is no need for EDCI 336 learners to register. We will send you the password to access the Participate HERE page via Mattermost.
  • Please submit 3 topics you would like to suggest for topics to be considered for upvoting by the end of class on Friday, March 26. The topics MUST be related to education (they do NOT have to be edtech-specific).
  • We’ll then collate the list and post a survey here on the afternoon of Friday, March 26, to vote for your top 3 topics out of the combined list. You will have until 10am PST on Wednesday, March 31 to vote for topics, after which time we will post the list of topics on the Topics page of the EdcampUVic website.
  • Be sure to update your Zoom software as per the instructions on the EdcampUVic website, so you can manually move yourself from one breakout room to another without waiting for our assistance.
  • Please log in 5 minutes early for the 1pm start of the Edcamp on Wednesday, March 31, and be prepared to have open dialogue and we encourage you to use one of the Google Docs provided on the Edcamp site to document important points or resources.
  • If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask us at the end of class on March 26 or to send us a message on Mattermost.
