Description: With your inquiry group, you will create a Guide to Digital Pedagogy.

From your own experiences as students, you will provide tips and trick to an instructor who is teaching online for the first time. The format and structure is open ended: you may choose to create an infographic, a short video, audio files (like a podcast) or any combination of the above.

Your target audience is an instructor who is teaching online for the first time. You may choose to target a more specific audience if you would like (for example, a K-12 teacher or a college instructor; someone who has been teaching for a long time in the classroom; someone brand new to teaching in online and in person environments, etc.)

Whichever format you choose, the content should include details on:

  • Course Site Design – what is important for instructors to do when they are creating their course sites? What works well and what doesn’t work well?
  • Chronousity – what blend of asynchronous and synchronous learning do you think is best for an online environment? What type of learning should be done asychronously? What type of learning should be done synchronously?
  • Accessibility/Inclusion – how should instructors make an accessible and inclusive learning environment for learners? how can they ensure that all learners are invited to particpate and do not experience barriers?
  • Communication – what is the best way for instructors to communicate with students in a digital learning environment? What is important for instructors to remember about communication online?
  • Interactivity – what levels and kind of interactivity should instructors use in their digital courses? Can you share certain tools or examples?
  • Learning Activities – what activities have you found to be successful in online classes? Do you have any specific tips on how to design those activities?
  • Other – is there anything else really important for online instructors to know or learn?
  • Make sure to highlight a specific tip or comment from each of your group members – these should draw on your own specific experiences of online teaching and learning

Please make sure you apply basic accessibility to your resource. This includes:

  • Provide alt-text for images
  • Provide captions for videos
  • Use simple language and explain specialized words

For students who opt in, these will be compiled into an Open resource.

Submit your resource here.
