- Learning Pod meeting to discuss Social Learning Platform Analysis
- Social Learning Platform Analysis – due Sun, Oct 25
I hope that everyone had another great weekend. This week we will be putting our attention on the Social Learning Platform Analysis assignment. Here we will be applying the ideas we have learned and discussed into exploring a social platform of your choosing. The readings this week include a variety of educational frameworks to support your assignment (some of which draws connections between ideas from the past weeks). Your Learning Pod meeting for this week is also focused on supporting the assignment. I will try my best to ensure you get feedback on your CC#5 blog post by the weekend, if not sooner.

Read, Watch, & Learn
- Choosing and using media in education: the SECTIONS model in Teaching in a Digital Age (Bates, 2015) [20 min read]
The SECTIONS model is a holistic model of assessing technology for learning. It incorporates not just educational components but also auxiliary needs such as cost, security, privacy, and institutional constraints. - Universal Design for Learning Guidelines (CAST, 2024) [10 min read]
The UDL Guidelines highlights three areas where diversity in an educational experience are needed to promote learner agency that is inclusive to all learners. They are: multiple means of engagement, representation, and action and expression. - Critical inquiry in a text-based environment: Computer conferencing in higher education (Garrison, Anderson, and Archer, 2000) [20 min read]
This framework is contextualized for online text-based, asynchronous learning. It outlines a community of inquiry as the intersection of cognitive, social, and teaching presence. - A framework for analysis in Rethinking University Teaching. pp. 81-90 (Laurillard, 2002) [15 min read]
This explores the Conversational Framework, which identifies a variety of steps in the learning process and through which thing they occur (i.e., teacher, student, environment, student’s actions).
Learning Pod
This week, your learning pod should meet synchronously (via Microsoft Teams, in-person, Zoom, etc.). I want you to discuss the upcoming assignment: Social Learning Platform Analysis.
Consider learning from one another:
- Which aspect of the assignment do you find particularly interesting?
- How do you intend to share evidence for your analysis?
- How could you be sure that the evidence is representative of the platform (instead of choosing evidence to support your point-of-view)?
- Which theories or concepts are most applicable?
Please meet after you have begun work on your assignment individually to ensure the discussion is as fruitful as possible.
Please share one thing that your group believes is a unique must-have for the upcoming assignment to the Community Contributions channel (this is in addition to your individual post). Only one person from your learning pod needs to post but they must include everyone’s name on the post.
Social Learning Platform Analysis
Due: Sun, Oct 25
Your goal is to evaluate and analyze a social learning platform of your choice, considering how it enables people to create, share, discover, and learn from content.
As always, you can reach me by email, Teams, or by booking a meeting.
Take care,
Adrian
