Hi! My name is Adrian Granchelli and I will be your instructor

I am an educator, maker, and technology enthusiast passionate about fostering creativity, sustainability, and lifelong learning. Rooted in a constructivist philosophy, I believe in empowering individuals to take an active role in their learning through hands-on exploration, personalized support, and engaging experiences. I hold a Master of Educational Technology from the University of British Columbia and am currently in the University of Victoria PhD program in Educational Studies. My research is focused in the rapidly changing world of AI in education. Outside of studies, I have taught in various educational settings from in-person to remotely, formal to informal environments, and everything in between. I have supported a variety of technologies for teaching and even developed a custom learning management system.
If you want to learn more about my journey in education technology and research interests, please feel free to view my personal website. When I’m not designing or teaching, I’m in the wilderness—rock climbing, camping, snowboarding, or volunteering with Comox Valley Search and Rescue. I live on the unceded territory of the K’òmoks First Nation and go by he/him pronouns.

Introductions
Throughout this course, you will have opportunities to learn from one another by reading each other’s work, engaging in group projects, and participating in peer review. To begin, let’s take some time to get to know each other. Try including some of the following prompts (you don’t need to address them all, but try to help us understand who you are):
- What is your name and lifestage?
- Where is your hometown? What is your native country and first language?
- What is your university major, and when do you plan to graduate?
- Introduce your professional background (please include any volunteering or philanthropy)
- What are your favourite academic subjects?
- What are your hobbies or life passions?
- Can you share something interesting you did in the past year?
- What experiences have you had with personalized learning or social media in education?
- What is something you hope to learn in this course?
Now, let’s start thinking beyond text – what can a photograph or short video clip tell us about you? Images are quick to process and engage us primarily on an emotional level (Yousman, 2016). So please share some photos or a short video clip of yourself — can you answer any of the above questions with an image?
Once you’ve posted your introduction, take time to meet your peers:
- Review/read at least 10 of your classmates’ introductions.
- Engage substantively with at least 4 peers, especially those who haven’t received much feedback yet.
- Use this opportunity to find peers with shared interests, goals, or majors who could potentially form a small group for synchronous discussions or identify a team for the challenge projects. Group Work starts in the second week!
