Join our Master of Education: Educational Technology Cohort – Starting September 2023
This MEd degree specializing in Educational Technology is designed for educators, learning support, and administrators in a K12, post-secondary, or other learning context. Across this two-year cohort-based program, we provide a close community to support working professionals. Courses will offer a foundation in both research and practice related to integrating technology to enhance and transform teaching and learning. Learners will develop literacies with digital, networked, and open technologies and explore the major shifts in education such as personalization, connectedness, openness, assessment, and modalities, such as hybrid, online, and multi-access designs. Students will conclude their program by developing an original graduating project in their area of interest.
Mode of Instruction
Learners can complete this program either entirely online or they may choose a hybrid participation approach (some courses online and some courses on campus) as courses will be offered in either an online-only or a multi-access learning modality that mixes face-to-face and online learners together.
Program: 15 units (7 courses plus graduating project)
Timeline: September 2023 – August 2025.
Fees: Typically 5 full fee payments. See UVic Fees [website]

Frequently Asked Questions
CAN I DO THE PROGRAM ENTIRELY ONLINE?
Yes, but we make effort to create optional face-to-face experiences for local students by offering some courses in multi-access learning formats that merge online and face-to-face learners via video conferencing.
CAN I WORK FULL-TIME AT THE SAME TIME AS COMPLETING THIS PROGRAM?
Yes. We make every effort to offer flexibility. Class times (via video) are in the evening during the Fall and Spring and during the Summer terms are typically short 3-week courses in July.
THE UVIC WEBSITE SOMETIMES SHOWS “MATH, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES, AND EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY.” DOES THIS PROGRAM FOCUS ON MATH AND SCIENCE?
No. The MEd program in our calendar spans these areas and the cohorts focus on one of the topics. This cohort offering is focused exclusively on Educational Technology. There is no math or science focus, although every learner is able to personalize their project to focus on their area of interest (e.g., create a documentary focused on truth and reconciliation, create online resources for math, develop a guide for learning designers or faculty at a university for adopting open textbooks or creating open educational resources).
