As you gain experience in finding your blog voice and reviewing your peers’ posts, you’ll start to develop a sense of what makes a strong blog entry. Your blog posts are meant to be reflections on the course topics—there’s no single “perfect” way to write them. Assessment will focus mainly on the quality of your ideas and their relevance to the course topics and resources. That said, since this is a course in educational technology, you’re also expected to develop skills in using digital tools effectively. The tips below are designed to help you create clear, engaging, and well-structured posts.

Title and Featured Image

A strong blog post begins with a clear and descriptive title that lets readers know what to expect. Alongside the title, including a featured image helps represent your post visually, making it more engaging on your blog’s main page or in previews. Together, the title and image set the tone and draw readers into your reflection.

Hyperlinks

Provide hyperlinks to concepts, resources, and people (if they have a blog or are on social media). To insert a hyperlink, select the text to link, then click on the link icon in the blog composition window, you can then paste the website address (URL) and press enter. If you click on the pinwheel next to the URL pane, you can select from pages or posts on your own blog or you can click a checkbox to open any hyperlink in a new window.

Images and Resources

Enhancing your blog with visuals and media can make your reflections more engaging and accessible. Insert images to break up long text. Include relevant images that support your writing, and ensure they are properly resized, aligned, and integrated into your post layout. Don’t forget to add alt text for accessibility. You can also enrich your content by embedding videos, social media posts, or other resources that connect to and expand on your ideas.

Video

If you refer to watching a video, embed it in your post. Make your sharing visible. Make your learning visible. If you put a YouTube link on its own line in a blog post, it should “pop” into an embedded window. If you need help, please reach out to us in the Tech Help forum in Mattermost.

Attribution

Make sure you attribute sources for content or media used, but also ensure you don’t upload copyrighted material without consent.

Organizing and Structuring Your Post

A well-organized blog makes it easier to read and navigate. Use clear, descriptive headings (H2, H3, etc.) to break your content into sections. Consider whether information might be better presented as a bulleted or numbered list, or even in a table if you’re displaying data or making comparisons. Finally, be sure to assign your post to at least one category so it’s easy for readers to find on your blog.
