This week’s post will continue to evolve across the week, so please come back to check until completed. We have the following topics and tasks for this week.
Digital Citizenship
- Guest talk with Jesse Miller (see bio). This session was recorded on Jan 15 from 6-7pm via our course Zoom room
- Remember: our course Zoom link can be found on the social spaces page on this site (using the password from your course outline) OR pinned at the top of Brightspace OR pinned at the top of the EDCI 136 Commons Mattermost channel. This session will be recorded, but we won’t record you. Once the lecture part is over, we’ll stop recording and open it up for questions and sharing.
- Note the links he refers to in his video are linked on this post below the video in the order they are mentioned.
-
- Resources shared by Jesse (for perusal and not required to watch in entirety)
- Davos 2019 – Press Conference The Value of Digital Identity for the Global Economy and Society (2019)
- The Government of Canada to test cutting-edge technologies to support secure and seamless global travel for air passengers (Jan 2018)
- Digital Media and Society – Trailer from World Economic Forum (2016)
- Resources shared by Jesse (for perusal and not required to watch in entirety)
Digital Literacy Frameworks
- moved to week 3
Tasks
- Form your pod of 4 by Friday!
- There are still some partial pods (2 or 3 learners). Please go into the pairs and pods sign-up (linked under social spaces on this site or in Brightspace) and move your pair to join another pair. Once Friday passes, I’ll move names around to form pods of 4. If you have any reasons to request an accommodation or exception for this, please reach out to Valerie. If you have not yet joined Mattermost, please do so as soon as possible, as we will be using Mattermost to connect you to your pods. As always, if you need alternate arrangements, let us know.
- Search Yourself
- Enter your name in a web search and review what comes up. Reach out to your lab instructor if you have any questions or need any help.
- Read two blog posts:
- WordPress Portfolios
- Creating a username on the OpenETC (needed for us to set up your blog)
- Complete the Self-Assessment of Digital Literacy Form
- Complete the Learner Pathways Survey. Please complete this survey to collect your privacy preferences and info needed to set up your blog. If you have any questions about your privacy, please contact your instructor or lab instructor. It would be great if you can complete this by end of day Friday, Jan 17, if possible. We can then contact you with the set-up of your blog. We will do this as your responses come in so the sooner the completion, the sooner you have your blog.
- We have Jeff Hopkins of the Pacific School of Innovation and Inquiry booked to share with us about inquiry, which is what assignment 1 is about. He will join us on campus at UVic in a video conference room, so you can join in person, participate live on Zoom, or watch the recording. No need to RSVP if you are online, but if registered learners plan to come in person, please reserve a seat via Calendly. Again, this is for registered learners only.
