Welcome to my TIEgrad EdTech MEd supervsor page! Under the Final Project menu, you will find instructor posts<\/a> (from both me and Michael) and also any learner posts with the category “project”<\/a> I look forward to working with all of you in the MEd cohort. I am a professor in educational technology at the University of Victoria in the Faculty of Education<\/a>\u2018s Department of Curriculum and Instruction<\/a>, where I am also the undergraduate and graduate educational technology area advisor. I am also co-director of the Technology Integration and Evaluation (TIE) Research Lab<\/a>, which was funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation<\/a>, the University of Victoria<\/a>, TELUS, and many other sources and sponsors.<\/p>\n

To give you more about my academic background, I have a BA (English) and a BEd from UBC. I began a Master\u2019s in Educational Psychology (specialization in Educational Technology) at the University of Alberta, and was fast-tracked to the Ph.D. program in Educational Psychology (specialization in Educational Technology), where I was a Government of Canada Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) doctoral fellow.<\/p>\n

Personally, I am a full-time single mother to two amazing girls, now transitioning to adulthood, and two wonderful Havanese dogs. This journey of praxis, where theory is put into practice, was life-changing for me. I was able to learn in depth about educational psychology, educational technology, and what is learning vs. schooling, as I traversed the research literature, interacted with professionals, and parented children who went to traditional public school, traditional private school, were homeschooled, and\/or attended an inquiry-framework school.<\/p>\n

My current interests span K-20 education, teacher education, open education, how technology scaffolds inquiry-based learning, educational reform, and multi-access learning, where modality is increasingly at the choice of the learner to create equality in access to education.<\/p>\n
