Welcome to EDCI 572!

Welcome to EDCI 572!

My name is Dr. Verena Roberts and I am your instructor for this course. I have taught online using a blog before, but not in this wordpress context, so please forgive me as I get things organized over the next few weeks. I have updated this blog with the information about the course, please use the course outline to help guide you should you need a quick resource.

My philosophy of teaching is all about co-designing learning opportunities and building knowledge together in participatory learning environments. I know that you have all been learning in your cohort together by using the blog,  so I will turn to you all for support as I transition into your learning environment. As we transition into the new course, I am looking forward to getting to know you all better 🙂

Based on the Doodle poll results, comments and feedback about synchronous class time for the rest of the course, it appears that the synchronous online best time that suits most people is: Tuesdays from 6-7 PST (BC time). This is an hour later than your previous class time.  The official class time will be one hour and you will have 30 minutes at the end to meet with your group – should you want to do so.

Activities for this week:
By March 1, 2020, please send me an email with a brief introduction of yourself and include one of your “must read” blog posts, so I can get to know you better.

We will be meeting in zoom on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 6-7 pm PDT (Pacific time). The zoom room link will be added to the blog under the Video room link tab.

Please review the course outline before March 4. I will be sending out a video with an overview of the course outline by this weekend and some instructions about the first class activity (The #TIEGrad Digital Toolbox). That way if you can’t make March 4, you can still participate in the weekly activities asynchronously.  If you can’t make March 4, please send me an email, I realize the short notice will affect attendance.
This week, please consider digital storytelling tools that you are using or want to use in your learning contexts. We will be working on building our learning commons digital storytelling resources by developing a course “Digital Toolbox”. Check out what University of Windsor students are creating for some ideas: http://www.uwindsor.ca/education/openpage
Please review the following digital resources for Wednesday’s class. Although the emphasis is on podcasting and video, any and all digital storytelling is encouraged! Also, if any of you have digital storytelling resources from your learning context, please ask if you can share them with the class?  We  will also be discussing the “process” part of storytelling including storyboarding.
Week 1: Digital Resources:
Next Week is Open Education Week! https://www.openeducationweek.org/
I know that you are transitioning from a great course in Open Education. Next week is Open Education week. Some of the “asynchronous and purely voluntary activities”  that I am supporting and that you might consider include:
