I\u2019ve had a couple of class members ask me for instructions on how to migrate their blog to another WordPress hosting service (like WordPress.com<\/a>) or delete their blog.  While I believe there is significant value in having a public presence on the internet that showcases your work from UVic that could be helpful when you start your job search, I also completely understand why some would either like to take down some of their blog posts or take down their blog completely.  That said, below are instructions on how to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Backup your blog post to your local hard drive (which you should do no matter what).<\/li>
  2. Leave your blog on OpenEd.ca and take down some posts.<\/li>
  3. Migrate your blog to WordPress.com and delete your OpenEd.ca blog.<\/li>
  4. Delete your OpenEd.ca blog, and back up your blog posts on your hard drive.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    <\/a>1. Backup your blog posts to your hard drive for safekeeping<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    1. Log in<\/strong> to your blog and click<\/strong> on the Tools<\/strong> menu on the left navigation bar.<\/li>
    2. Click<\/strong> on the Export<\/strong> button below the Tools menu on the left navigation bar.<\/li>
    3. Click<\/strong> on the All content<\/strong> radio button in order to export your complete blog, including all posts, pages, feedback and media.<\/li>
    4. Click<\/strong> on the Download Export<\/strong> File button.<\/li>
    5. Select<\/strong> a location on your hard drive<\/strong> to back up your blog posts. Preferably this will be a location that will be backed up in the cloud, like a Google Drive folder, and iCloud folder, or Dropbox folder.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      <\/a>2. Leave your blog on OpenEd.ca and take down some posts<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
      1. Log on to your blog, and click<\/strong> on the Posts<\/strong> button on the left side of the screen.<\/li>
      2. Click<\/strong> on the All Posts<\/strong> button, and then find the blog post(s) that you would like to delete.<\/li>
      3. Mouseover<\/strong> a blog post that you would like to delete. Press<\/strong> the red Trash<\/strong> button that appears.<\/li>
      4. Find any other blog posts that do not showcase your talents and abilities, and delete them as well.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        3. Migrate your blog to WordPress.com<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
        1. Log in<\/strong>\u00a0to your OpenEd.ca blog and\u00a0click<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0Tools<\/strong>\u00a0menu on the left navigation bar.<\/li>
        2. Click<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0Export<\/strong>\u00a0button below the Tools menu on the left navigation bar.<\/li>
        3. Click<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0All content<\/strong>\u00a0radio button in order to export your complete blog, including all posts, pages, feedback and media.<\/li>
        4. Click<\/strong>\u00a0on the\u00a0Download Export<\/strong>\u00a0File button.<\/li>
        5. Select<\/strong>\u00a0a location on your hard drive<\/strong>\u00a0to back up your blog posts. Preferably this will be a location that will be backed up in the cloud, like a Google Drive folder, and iCloud folder, or Dropbox folder.<\/li>
        6. Follow these instructions to create an account and free website at WordPress.com:\u00a0https:\/\/www.lifewire.com\/start-free-blog-at-wordpress-3476412<\/a><\/li>
        7. Follow these instructions to import your backed up OpenEd.ca website into your new WordPress.com website:\u00a0https:\/\/wordpress.com\/support\/import\/<\/a>
          NOTE: See tutorial #1 above if you haven\u2019t already backed up your OpenEd.ca website.<\/li>
        8. Once your website is up and running on the new platform you can then delete your OpenEd.ca website by following the steps below.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          <\/a>4. Delete your OpenEd.ca blog, and back up your blog posts on your hard drive<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
          1. Log on to your blog, and click<\/strong> on the Tools<\/strong> button on the left side of the screen.<\/li>
          2. Click<\/strong> on the Delete Site<\/strong> button.<\/li>
          3. Click<\/strong> the checkbox to the right of the text that says, \u201cI\u2019m sure I want to permanently disable my site\u2026\u201d.<\/li>
          4. Click<\/strong> on the blue Delete My Site Permanently<\/strong> button.<\/li>
          5. You will receive an email asking you to click on a link in the email to confirm that you want to delete your website.
            NOTE: If you do not receive the confirmation email, please email the web address of your blog to rmccue@uvic.ca and I will contact the webserver to delete it manually.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
