The subject can be about anything you want so long as it is educational. You will utilize a design process, track your progress with <a href=\"https:\/\/edtechuvic.ca\/edci337\/2025\/09\/01\/multimedia-project-template\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/edtechuvic.ca\/edci337\/2025\/09\/01\/multimedia-project-template\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this template<\/a>, and engage in peer review.<\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>As you complete this project, you will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Integrate multimedia and interactive elements to enhance learning opportunities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Apply theories and frameworks (multimedia learning theories, interactive theories, universal design for learning) to support learning and accessibility<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Evaluate open educational resources for their learning quality and accessibility and provide theory-informed recommendations for improvement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Iterate on your project with peer feedback to refine and improve your work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Engage in design thinking to create multimedia learning projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What&#8217;s an Open Educational Resource?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching, learning, and research materials that are either <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>in the public domain or <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>licensed in a manner that provides everyone with free and perpetual permission to engage in the 5R activities (retain, reuse, revise, remix, redistribute).&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/course\/cc-cert-edu\/unit-5-cc-for-educators\/5-1-oer-open-textbooks-and-open-courses\/#footnote-2\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/course\/cc-cert-edu\/unit-5-cc-for-educators\/5-1-oer-open-textbooks-and-open-courses\/#footnote-2\"> Creative Commons (2025)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By being freely available and accessible to learners, they act as valuable tools for democratizing education. They reduce financial and accessibility barriers, making learning opportunities available to a global audience. Although much of the internet seems free to use, most websites don\u2019t offer the same rights as OERs, restricting how their content can be legally reused or shared. OERs are an important step in making education more open and equitable. This is exciting as right now, you could go online and learn just about anything! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Creative Commons licenses make it easy to legally share your work and see how others have licensed theirs. For your own OERs, I recommend using the most permissive license, CC-BY, which you can apply by including a clear statement on your website. Learn more on the <a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/share-your-work\/cclicenses\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/share-your-work\/cclicenses\/\">Creative Commons website here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you explore OERs on your own, I want you to first consider your personal thoughts and experiences:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Can you trust this resource? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are you able to obtain the information you want? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Are your learning goals supported? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do you have agency? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How are you motivated? <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How does the interaction with the OER make you feel? <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Through this personal lens, you can then consider how some of the theories and frameworks apply to OERs. Consider: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Theories of cognitive load<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dual-coding theory <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interactive theories<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Universal design for learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Spend some time searching the internet for educational resources based on your interests and hobbies and explore some OERs. Below are some OER examples to explore. Ensure every design choice is anchored in multimedia learning theory and pedagogical evidence.\nDevelop a solution plan, including a storyboard\/script and clear connections to theory\nPrototype\nBring your concept to life. Create a functional draft of your project and share it with the community to see how your design performs in practice.\nCreate a multimedia artifact prototype based on the plan\n\nPeer Feedback\nOffer constructive feedback to your peers while gaining new perspectives to help improve your own design. Provide actionable insights on peer prototypes grounded in multimedia learning principles and the challenge rubric.\n\nReflect and Refine \nUse peer feedback and fresh perspectives to refine your work. Iterate on your process and design. The process you follow to create your project is where most of your learning occurs, and as a result, the majority of your grade will be based on that process. So it is crucial that you record all of your design decisions. <strong>The key to success is to work through a clear design process and to justify your choices by referencing class readings and other literature. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/edtechuvic.ca\/edci337\/2025\/09\/01\/multimedia-project-template\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4892\"><strong>Here<\/strong> <\/a>is a template for you to document your work. Storyboards remain a useful tool for mapping that journey &#8211; it can help to imagine a single person navigating through your website. Some questions to consider: In which order should they engage with it? What story is unfolding as the progress through your site? You can share it as a web page, a document with clear project documentation, or a blog post. A specific tool for website development is called a wireframe. They are a visual representation of your site that aims to display the experience without the technical time investment. You can explore the use of wireframes to share your ideas or you can go straight to developing the website. Learn about wireframes in this overview by Guilizzoni (2025) here: <a href=\"https:\/\/balsamiq.com\/blog\/what-are-wireframes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">What is a wireframe? A guide for non-designers<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Along with your prototype, please include your <strong>Understand<\/strong> and <strong>Plan<\/strong> phases. These don&#8217;t need to be perfect or complete; you&#8217;ll have a chance to refine them later. The instructor will setup a private channel so only the reviewer, reviewee, and instructor can see the feedback. One of the best ways we can grow individually and as a team is through the process of feedback. Both offering and receiving peer feedback can be hard, scary, and emotional &#8211; please consider your words carefully for constructive and actionable comments.
