This morning I woke up early and went to check out some lakes. The first lake I visited was kemp lake this lake has rainbow trout and cutthroat trout, and bass (https://fishbrain.com/fishing-waters/syjQeLzW/kemp-lake). I’ve caught these here before but using a spinning rod with a lure/bait on the end. My sister and our families dog came along, we went on a quick walk before and let the dog swim in the swimming area after. It was a really nice day out and I hadn’t checked out the new dock that was installed in the summer. The old one was barely floating and super rotten. However when we got there the path to the dark was flooded pretty good. I managed to make a little bridge and get to the dock. I stayed for about 30 minutes casting in a few different directions off the dock. I couldn’t go all the way out to the end of the dock as there was a man and his son checking out the lake (last thing I want to do is a catch a person instead of a fish). Here’s a video My sister took before she took the dog on a walk. It was my first cast in a while and it felt pretty choppy (looked choppy/aggressive as well). The casts got better after this one thankfully, but it’s a reminder that I need to practice more consistently.

Shockingly, I didn’t Catch anything on this fishing venture, but my hopes are still high. I only brought the one fly with me as I knew I wasn’t going to stay long. Next item I’ll bring my collection of flys, as maybe the fish like a different type/colour pattern. I also think I’ll bring out my canoe next time I’m at Kemp Lake and try to fish out of that. It was pretty cool to see how the floating line and leader worked in the water. Everything floated except for the fly which dropped down a few feet. My fly definitely resembled a leech type creature, I think it could definitely work. I will try this spot again sometime with a follow up entry.

References

Check out Kemp Lake in British Columbia, Canada!.
