For my last post, I wanted to go to Goldstream. I have visited Goldstream countless times either just on daytrips with family, with summer camps, or have camped here. Goldstream is always fun to visit.<\/p>\n

The curricular connection I was thinking of specifically for this post focus on grade 7 physical and health education in the BC Curriculum:<\/a><\/p>\n

The W\u0331S\u00c1NE\u0106 name for the Goldstream River is SELE\u20adTE\u023d<\/a>. SELE\u20adTE\u023d has historically been used by both the Malahat and W\u0331S\u00c1NE\u0106 people for fishing<\/a> a wide variety of salmon, trout, and steelhead throughout the seasons. Currently, SELE\u20adTE\u023d is now under the authority<\/a> of the Malahat, Tsawout, Tsartlip, Tseycum, and Pauquachin bands. Click this link<\/a> to be taken to the Malahat website to explore their Language Collection which includes audio for pronunciation of different words and phrases. <\/p>\n

Mood Before and After<\/strong><\/p>\n

My mood before going to Goldstream was around a 2. I left feeling around a 5. The level of the river was just low enough that I was able to walk through the tunnel and access the other side. I really enjoyed being able to hike to the waterfall. I wasn\u2019t able to get as close as I normally would but I was impressed I was even able to get as close as I did despite the water level. <\/p>\n

Summary of Learning Experience<\/strong><\/p>\n

I enjoyed this project significantly more than I was expecting. I would absolutely try this project with a class (with some modifications of course). It was great to be able to explore new and familiar places around the Greater Victoria area, as well as research the Indigenous history of those areas to expand my knowledge further. Sometimes I forget that not everyone has the privilege of living by the ocean and being surrounded by massive forests. I think I have a greater appreciation of where I live because I was able to take the time to explore, notice, and learn in a way that worked for me. <\/p>\n
