I have been here quite a few times while working in summer camps, but I have only been here once without summer camp participants. It was a nice change to be able to take the time to notice everything around me.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/mredci336.opened.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9964\/2026\/02\/ML-1-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-167\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Image of Matheson Lake <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Curricular Connection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The curricular connection I was thinking of specifically for this post focus on grade 5 science in the <a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.gov.bc.ca\/curriculum\/science\/5\/core\">BC Curriculum<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Make observations in familiar or unfamiliar contexts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Location<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">I started with walking around the areas I was familiar with and had been to before. After, I chose to walk further around Matheson Lake than I have been before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">It was a bit more challenging to identify the exact territory in which Matheson Lake resides within, but it\u2019s very close to the SC\u2019I\u023aNEW\u0331 Nation (or Beecher Bay). <a href=\"https:\/\/scianew.com\/history\/\">SC\u2019I\u023aNEW\u0331<\/a> roughly translates to \u201cthe place of big fish\u201d. Additionally, while I was unable to find as much information about their history, I did find some interesting information from a few months ago about the how <a href=\"https:\/\/scianew.com\/the-new-spill-response-center-coming-to-scianew-nation-beecher-bay\/\">SC\u2019I\u023aNEW\u0331 Nation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/goldstreamgazette.com\/2025\/10\/29\/greater-victoria-based-crew-keeping-b-c-waters-safe-from-spills\/\">Western Canada Marine Response (WCMRC)<\/a> are working together to respond faster to oil spills that occur long BC\u2019s coastline.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mood Before and After<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">As I mentioned in my previous post, I was feeling about \u201cneutral\u201d before going on this walk. It was raining a little bit as I had arrived and while I was out for a walk. I left at around a rating of 5 afterwards.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"954\" height=\"542\" src=\"https:\/\/mredci336.opened.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9964\/2026\/02\/Screenshot-2026-02-19-at-10.02.58%E2%80%AFPM.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-165\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Mood Chart<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">It\u2019s challenging to get a whole picture of the lake because of how wide the view was from where I was standing at times. I took pictures of some interesting plants I saw such as this one. I was unable to fully identify it, but I think it is a type of lichen.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/mredci336.opened.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9964\/2026\/02\/ML-2-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-170\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Unknown species of lichen<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">I took a picture of the lake while standing out on some rocks and this is what I chose to paint.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/mredci336.opened.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9964\/2026\/02\/ML-3-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-171\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Image of Matheson Lake <\/em><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"948\" src=\"https:\/\/mredci336.opened.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9964\/2026\/02\/ML-4-1024x948.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-172\"><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>Matheson Lake in Watercolour<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The water was easier to paint this time in comparison to the painting of the Lagoon. I surprisingly had an easier time painting the rocks in this photo, as I find rocks can be challenging with their organic shapes. What I found to be the most challenging was painting the forested areas in the background.
