As a future French immersion teacher, I was particularly interested in discovering resources that could support both my curriculum delivery and my students’ language development. While I was already familiar with some platforms like Live It Earth for science instruction, this session introduced me to several new resources that will undoubtedly shape my teaching practice.

One of the most valuable discoveries for me was learning about the depth of French-language resources specifically designed for BC classrooms. The LEARN Quebec platform, while not BC-specific, offers incredible French immersion resources that align well with our curriculum. Similarly, I was reminded of Idéllo, Ontario’s French-language educational content platform, which offers thousands of videos, games, and interactive activities that I can incorporate into my lessons.

What I appreciated most was the emphasis on authentic French resources rather than translated materials. The presentation highlighted how important it is for French immersion students to engage with content created in French, for French speakers, rather than simply consuming English materials that have been translated.

As I move forward in my teaching career, I’m committed to not just collecting resources, but thoughtfully integrating them into my practice. The presentation emphasized that technology and digital resources should enhance learning, not replace good teaching. This resonates with me, especially in language immersion contexts where face-to-face interaction and authentic communication are paramount. I hope to look further into these resources for my Inquiry project and see if any of these tools could be applied in multiple capacities.

This week’s presentation on focused educational resources for teaching in British Columbia opened my eyes to the wealth of digital tools and platforms available to BC educators.
