It suggests that for technology to be effective, it must move through these three phases: 1. Engagement (The "Focus" Phase) Most educational apps are "engaging" in a flashy way (gamification, bright colors), but Triple E looks for behavioral engagement. Active Learning: Does the tool keep the student focused on the task with minimal distractions? Social Synergy: Does it encourage "co-use" (students talking to each other about the content) rather than just "solo-use"? The Litmus Test: If you took the technology away, would the student still be as focused on the specific learning goal? 2. Enhancement (The "Value-Add" Phase) This is where the technology provides a "bridge" to understanding that wouldn't exist with traditional tools. Scaffolding: Does the tool provide supports (like built-in dictionaries, hint systems, or AI tutors) that make it easier to understand a complex concept? Demonstration: Does it allow students to demonstrate their or understand a concept in a way that was impossible before (e.g., using a 3D model to understand a molecule)? High-Level Thinking: Does it move the student from "remembering" to "analyzing"? 3. Extension (The "Real World" Phase) This is the rarest and most difficult level to achieve. It’s about taking the learning outside the four walls of the classroom. Bridge to Life: Does the tool allow the student to apply what they learned to their everyday life? 24/7 Learning: Does it provide a way for the student to continue learning outside of the school day? Soft Skills: Is the student learning "real-world" digital skills that they will use in a future career (e.g., professional collaboration or digital citizenship)?" width="1007" height="882" srcset="https://edtechuvic.ca/edci336/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/02/triple-e-framework.jpg 1007w, https://edtechuvic.ca/edci336/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/02/triple-e-framework-300x263.jpg 300w, https://edtechuvic.ca/edci336/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/02/triple-e-framework-768x673.jpg 768w, https://edtechuvic.ca/edci336/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/02/triple-e-framework-600x526.jpg 600w, https://edtechuvic.ca/edci336/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2026/02/triple-e-framework-945x828.jpg 945w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1007px) 100vw, 1007px" />
Gemini 3.0 (2026)

Which Model Should I Use: SAMR -or- Triple E Framework?

While models like SAMR describe what the technology is doing, Triple E measures how well the technology is helping the student meet a learning objective.
